DespicableDogs Confirms Comptroller Run: "Make No Bones About It"

Local News · By the 101.1 News Desk

101.1 The Butt's own DespicableDogs has officially entered the race for Prankcast Comptroller, the station confirmed in a brief statement read aloud on air between two ska songs.

The host, best known for the long-running "Thursday Throwdown" and for being on the radio here, launched the campaign with the slogan "DespicableDogs for Prankcast Comptroller: Make No Bones About It." Campaign posters have been spotted on telephone poles, on telephones, and on one (1) bus.

Asked about his platform, DespicableDogs told the station, "I want to do that too, but I want to give the community lots of treats this year. Wait, did someone say treats?" He then left the studio for eleven minutes.

The campaign has not been without controversy. An early cold-calling effort asked voters to "hawk tuah and spit on that thing," which the campaign has since described as "a typo." Campaign officials also confirmed the candidate briefly forgot about the election due to "a mild case of the munchies."

When asked what a comptroller actually does, a campaign spokesperson said they would "circle back," and then circled the parking lot. One undecided community member told 101.1, "I'm just here for the phone rings, man."

101.1 The Butt reminds listeners that the station is legally required to offer equal airtime to all candidates, and that we will be doing that in the form of a single 4 AM slot on Tuesdays.

Station dogs celebrate the ratings with a cake in the conference room

101.1 The Butt Ranked #1 Among Listeners Currently Listening

Station News · By Station Management

In a ratings period described by management as "a period," 101.1 The Butt finished first in its key demographic: people who were already listening to 101.1 The Butt.

The station also posted strong numbers in Adults 18–49 Who Left The Radio On, Dogs 2–14, and Callers Who Thought This Was A Pizza Place. Station management called the results "extremely encouraging" and "not something we can independently verify."

101.1 The Butt does not subscribe to a ratings service. All figures were gathered by asking listeners, on the air, to "honk if you're listening." The station received several honks, at least one of which was a goose.

"We've always said 101.1 The Butt is known for two things: elite music taste and kooky prank phone calls," said a station spokesperson. "This proves we're also known for a third thing, which is ratings."

Station Relocates To Top Floor Following "Minor" Bat Situation

Station News · By Facilities

101.1 The Butt has completed its move to new studios on the top floor of a brick building downtown, following what facilities staff are calling "a minor bat situation."

The new studio features soundproofing, a working fire escape, and the station's call sign painted on the roof in letters large enough to be read by aircraft, birds, and at least one bat-shaped dog who has been circling the building since the move.

"We want to be clear that the bat is not an employee," said a station representative. "He is a volunteer." The bat is reportedly being considered for the overnight shift.

Listeners are reminded that studio tours are not available. Listeners are further reminded that if they can see the studio from the street, the studio can also see them.

Morning Show Coffee Budget Exceeds Music Budget For Third Straight Quarter

Business · By Accounts Payable

An internal review has found that 101.1 The Butt spent more on coffee than on music for the third consecutive quarter, a trend station accountants called "sustainable, emotionally."

The review notes that the station's music library is already "complete and elite" and requires no further investment, while the morning team "requires coffee in order to say words." The report recommends no changes.

The station has also approved a new line item for "treats, misc." which accounting described as "large, and growing." A request for an industrial espresso machine was denied after staff were unable to explain what "industrial" meant in this context.

Letter From Federal Regulators Received, Framed, Hung In Lobby

Station News · By Legal

101.1 The Butt has received correspondence from a federal agency regarding its broadcast license. The letter has been professionally framed and now hangs in the lobby, next to the station's first dollar and a photo of a hydrant.

As a pirate radio station, 101.1 The Butt is not licensed by the Federal Communications Commission. It is, however, licensed by its listeners, and by its heart. The station's legal department (a laminated card that says "LEGAL") has advised that this distinction "probably won't hold up."

"We take our responsibilities as a broadcaster very seriously," the station said, "which is why we broadcast on the internet, where nobody can find the knob."

Community Spotlight: October Hydrant Of The Month

Community · By The Street Team

This month's Hydrant of the Month is the bright red hydrant at the corner of 5th and Main, nominated by eleven separate listeners, all of them dogs.

Judges praised the hydrant for its "classic silhouette," "ideal height," and "strong presence in the neighborhood." The hydrant has served the community faithfully for over thirty years and has never once been asked how its day was going.

The winning hydrant receives a commemorative plaque, which will be installed at the base of the hydrant, which the station acknowledges "may not have been the best place for it." Nominations for November are open now. Please do not nominate the same hydrant. We know. We know it's a great hydrant.

Ska Band Skarassment Added To Fall Concert Series Despite Repeated Warnings

Music · By The Music Department

Local two-tone ensemble Skarassment has been added to the 101.1 Fall Concert Series, the station announced Monday, against the advice of everyone who has ever heard a horn section.

The band, which features eleven dogs in matching suits and one dog who "just showed up," is known for its high-energy shows and its insistence on playing the same song twice in a row "because the first time was a warmup."

"Ska is back," said a station representative. When reminded that ska has been declared "back" every year since 1997, the representative said "and it's never been more back than now."

Skankable attire is encouraged. Checkerboard patterns will be provided. Hearing protection will not.

Overnight Forecast Calls For Ringing, Light Dialing

Weather · By The 101.1 Weather Center

The 101.1 Weather Center is tracking a system of heavy phone activity moving in overnight, with ringing expected after 10 PM and scattered dial tones through the morning commute.

Tomorrow looks cally, with highs in the 70s. Friday turns ringy, also in the 70s. Weekend outlook: busy signal, clearing by Sunday afternoon. The station's meteorologist reminds listeners that this forecast is for phone conditions only and that for actual weather they should "look out a window, I'm not your mom."

A full moon is expected Thursday. Howling is permitted but must stay under 85 decibels after midnight per station policy.
